Seeing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, donning the adamantium claws for the last time in Logan evokes many emotions. I have been watching him in character for 17 years since the first X-Men movie was released in 2000. And I must say, Jackman is one of the best portrayal of such iconic character from Marvel universe.
Logan, Wolverine's other name survives on chauffeuring jobs & hustling for prescription drugs to relieve pain, as his aging body is poisoned by the adamantium in the bones which impede healing. He lives with Caliban, a mutant tracker & cares for Professor Xavier who suffers from neurodegenerative disease which causes him to lose control of his telepathic abilities.
One day, Logan reluctantly accepts a job from a nurse who use to work in a biotechnological firm, to escort her & a young girl to a place called "Eden". From then on, things took a turn for the worst & Logan, Xavier, Caliban & the young girl became the hunted.
This movie is a serious adult movie with R-ratings (rated 18+ only in Malaysia), littered with profanities that are not child-friendly at all. While the young superhero fans will be fairly disappointed for not able to watch in the theatre, it was a good move to keep the movie's tone serious & vulnerable. The film sheds a different light to the invincible, unformidable character - that Wolverine can actually age & gradually lose his abilities.
It was an emotional 2-hour spectacle, as I silently bid farewell to the character that I grew up watching. No one in this generation would play it any better than Hugh Jackman himself. The next generation would have a lot to live up to such quality acting.
Goodbye, Hugh Jackman. You will be sorely missed as Wolverine of our time.
