It was a busy Monday this week but WL & I still found some time to whet our foodie appetite. When you're feeling down & exhausted after a long, work day; what better way to make you happy than treating yourself with some good food?
We drove separately to Tonkatsu by Ma Maison at Main Place, Subang. WL tried it before & thought it had decent pork dishes that are worth my drive there.
This restaurant is popular for their bento sets but I'm not able to stomach the whole set completely, most of the time. Instead of wasting excess food, I opted for a safe option - tonkotsu ramen. To my surprise, the broth looked clearer than it should. To be fair, I took a sip in order to judge the taste. It further confirmed that the broth was slightly lacking. Ramen was springy; the amount of pork slices & condiments were just right but soupy concoction didn't make the cut. What a pity!
WL being the bigger eater between us picked the rosu katsu bento set. The set comprises rice (a choice of plain steamed rice or jyukkokumai, also known as multi-grain rice), tonjiru (it's miso soup, btw) & cabbage. The pork loin was fried to golden perfection & seasoned well. You won't go wrong with rice, what's more from a Japanese restaurant. The miso soup is miso, so there's nothing much to elaborate. Cabbage, was shredded into thin strips, but sadly didn't taste as good; probably not fresh.
It was a decent dining experience - not bad but definitely a few misses here & there. Another put-off is the hefty price for mediocre taste. Not sure if I'll be returning anytime soon. Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
